The Raggedy Edge, Chapter 7: The Politics of Contraband

The crew of the Lightspeed Vagabond was contracted by Lazy Jasmine to take a shipment of Glowpowder to the city Dearic on Talus, where it was to be delivered to a new distributor. On arrival, they found the ship directed towards a government platform, and discovered that the distributor was, in fact, Alanna Baldur…the Mayor of Dearic. Alanna’s teenage daughter Connie joined her as she arranged delivery, and attempted to convince the crew to sell her a dose of the Glowpowder. The crew refused, using the reasoning that the shipment wasn’t theirs to sell…although Eri’anya discretely agreed to sell her one of the doses that she stole during the job to RigadorĂ©.

While the Glowpowder was being offloaded and the ship refueled, the crew took advantage of the downtime. While making their way through Dearic, Hahljhardan and The One were ambushed by a trio of bounty hunters, the Delani Sisters. After a scuffle in an alleyway, they managed to defeat the Delani Sisters. Meanwhile, the rest of the group found themselves confronted by Levrek Nes once again, still pursuing Eri’anya for his employer. A fight ready to happen, somehow Eri was able to convince him to leave them alone…a feat which surprised even her.

As the crew prepared to return to the ship, they were faced with a large public disturbance. Landspeeders were being tossed through the air, explosions large and small went off, and the Corellian Security Force had cordoned off an area. The crew was able to see the center of the disturbance: Connie was floating in the air, electricity randomly shooting from her. She was clearly frightened and in pain. Eri suggested ignoring the trouble and returning to the ship as quickly as possible, but the rest of the crew opted to intervene. They tried to calm Connie and help her, but after a large flare of electricity, she fell to the ground…lifeless, and looking nearly mummified. Before CorSec could approach and question them, they returned to the ship and headed back to Serenity, where Jasmine seemed surprised to see them.

GM NOTES

Unknown to the crew, the Delani Sisters were hired by Lazy Jasmine, who still blamed them for the “lost” shipment of Glowpowder to RigadorĂ©, when the contact who showed interest turned out to be bogus. They had instructions to attack after the delivery was made.

This also advanced the mystery of the Glowpowder, tying it to the news reports they’d been seeing about mysterious happenings, and the team making the connection that these reports were coming from worlds where they’d delivered the spice.
